[Chapter-delegates] 2014 Internet Society Board of Trustees Elections

This being my first experience as a voter for Trustee, I find the
process.... fascinating.

- The nearly one month voting window.

- The shortness of a preliminary campaign period.

- The ability to change votes multiple times.

I find these characteristics unusual, and probably not my own preferred
design. However, I am at a loss to understand Alexandro's perception of
"total process breakdown". As democratic processes go, I have experienced
far worse.

The current timeline would seem to serve those chapters that require more
details about candidates than has been provided to date. I personally would
have preferred a scheduled conference call with candidates to answer
Chapter questions. (or maybe there was one and I missed it.)

It is unusual, but not IMO undemocratic, to allow campaigning during the
voting period. It's not as if delegates are being harassed at the virtual
voting booth. The more we know about the candidates, the better informed we
are at voting time.

I am genuinely interested to know why Alexandro and others believe the
current situation to be so awful.

Could the process be better? Are there many lessons to be learned? Sure.

Is it a disaster? I can't see that.
 Dear Chapter Delegates

The 2014 Internet Society Board of Trustees elections have begun.

Electronic ballots were sent yesterday to all voting representatives and
delegates.
They will have until Friday, 25 April 2014 at 23:59 UTC to cast their votes.

Additional details on the elections, as well as information on all of the
candidates can be found here:
http://www.internetsociety.org/who-we-are/board-trustees/trustee-elections

In order to facilitate and encourage dialogue and participation by Chapter
Delegates and all members, the Election Committee is again providing an
online Candidate Forum. It includes a set of questions which candidates
have answered to share their perspectives on a variety of issues. The
Questions & Answers Candidate Forum can be found
at:https://www.internetsociety.org/apps/wp/elections2014/

We would like to thank chapters that have already contributed with their
questions so far.

We will continue to accept questions for the Candidate Forum through Friday,
4 April at 23:59 UTC.

Please send these to election-committee at elists.isoc.org. The additional
questions will be posted on Monday, April 7 and candidates will again be
asked to provide responses.

We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the candidates and engage
with your Chapter's voting delegate on the choices this election provides.

With very best wishes

Desiree Miloshevic
