Dear Members,

The 9th Internet Governance Forum (IGF<http://www.intgovforum.org/cms>) will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 2 to 5 September 2014, and will focus on "Connecting Continents for Enhanced Multistakeholder Internet Governance".

The ambitious objective of the Istanbul meeting is to connect communities and strengthen the cooperation between and among various stakeholders. However, this dialogue is not supposed to be an end in itself, but a means toward exchange of information and best practices.

As you know, communities have been working since the beginning of the summer on Best Practices, through mailing lists and online virtual meetings. The discussion will be documented by independent experts and feed into five 90 minute sessions in Istanbul, that will in turn report into a Best Practices wrap up session. A summary booklet/handout on each Best Practices discussions/sessions is also one of the intended outcomes to be published after the IGF 2014 meeting.

All stakeholders from governments, IGOs, Civil Society, the business and technical communities, are invited to join the preparatory process leading to the Istanbul IGF Best Practices Forums. You can still take an active part in preparations by sending written contributions to discussion_questions at intgovforum.org<mailto:discussion_questions at intgovforum.org> and by joining the following mailing lists:

1. Developing meaningful multistakeholder participation mechanisms:

2. Regulation and mitigation of unwanted communications (e.g. "spam"):

4. Creating an enabling environment for the development of local content:

5. Best practices for online child protection:

Beyond the Best Practices, our discussion during the ISOC Internet Governance webinar mid-July showed that the ISOC community is highly involved in all IGF activities. As we get closer to the event, a complete guide of our community's activities will be sent out and posted on our website<http://www.internetsociety.org/2014-igf-help-build-vision-future-internet>.

More to follow soon.

Best regards,
