Dear Members,

2014 will be a busy year with several tracks tied into the WSIS process. This infographic provides information with past and future landmark dates to be aware of: http://www.internetsociety.org/internet-governance-timeframe-2002-2016-0

In particular, we would like to draw your attention to opportunities to contribute to consultations leading to some of these events. A diversity of input from all stakeholders is critical and we encourage our Members to participate to open Internet governance processes. Our collective participation to the debates is an essential step to reinforce the multistakeholder Internet model!

We also invite you to share your thoughts and insights on this list. They will be very useful as the Internet Society prepares its own submissions.

IGF 2014:
--------------
The 9th Internet Governance Forum will be held from 2 to 5 September, in Istanbul, Turkey. The first round of Open Consultations and MAG meetings will be held on 19-20 February 2014, in Geneva.

Also, the Secretariat has launched a call for public input inviting all stakeholders to submit suggestions or ideas for issues to be discussed at the 2014 IGF: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/ Suggestions will be put into a synthesis paper that will act as an input into the preparatory discussions. "Proposals should be kept short and succinct", and can be sent by 10 February 2014 to the following email address:
 IGF2014si at intgovforum.org<mailto:IGF2014si at intgovforum.org>

WSIS+10 Review:
-------------------------
The WSIS+10 High Level Event will be organized by the ITU, possibly in June 2014 (date and location tbc).

Following on the first phase of the WSIS Review initiated by UNESCO in February last year, the 2014 Review will assess progress made in the implementation of the WSIS outcomes (2003 and 2005), with a view to developing proposals on a new vision beyond 2015, potentially exploring new targets.

The preparatory process is comprised of an Open Consultation Process that will produce two outcome documents: 1/ a draft WSIS+10 Statement on the Implementation of WSIS Outcomes and 2/ a draft WSIS+10 Vision for WSIS Beyond 2015 under mandates of participating agencies: http://www.itu.int/wsis/review/mpp/

Nicolas Seidler (ISOC) and I participated to the second physical meeting of the preparatory process. Input is open to all WSIS stakeholders and can be provided until 24 January 2014. ISOC will continue to be very engaged in this process going forward and we encourage you to get involved: http://www.internetsociety.org/wsis

CSTD WSIS follow-up:
-----------------------------
The UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is the focal point to assist the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in assessing the WSIS process. In this respect, the CSTD launches every year a call for reports on progress in implementing WSIS Action Lines.

ISOC's activities are relevant across a wide range of WSIS priorities, and we have provided detailed reports on progress achieved in relevant areas on an annual basis. Our contribution to the 2013 CSTD "Flow of information for the follow-up of the WSIS" is available here: http://www.internetsociety.org/achieving-goals-wsis#CSTD

As these various WSIS-related tracks unfold, we will continue to engage with the ISOC community.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and contributions.

Best regards,

--
