Dear all,
Many thanks to all of you who commented on the blog post on pervasive surveillance. To follow-up on the email Kathy sent out yesterday, here are a few additional comments and clarifications.
Kathy already addressed the valid point, made by several of you, regarding the US nature of the “Day we fight back” initiative. The point is well taken and we tweaked the blog post somewhat to make it appear less US focused. The original idea has always been for the message to be global in nature: there is a need for world wide collaboration to restore trust in the Internet, its technologies, applications, and services.
We support the principles of the “Day we fight back” initiative, as it is aligned with our principles, but we have not actually joined the coalition. The point we are making is that it is important not to work in isolation, but rather join forces and work together. We remain of course committed to consult our membership and get their input and perspectives.
Best regards
Markus
