[Chapter-delegates] VIDEO Net Neutrality in a Non-Neutral Net (South St Seaport Tech Tuesday)

This was actually as good a discussion on NN as we've seen. In contrast to
the usual suspects, ably herded/goaded by The Verge's Nilay Patel, we had
 own ISOC-NY Director Jonathan Askin, who admitted major responsibility for
the whole mess, as it was his 2004 win in the FCC's Pulver Decision

the whole "information service" can of worms; and then Telecom gadfly Bruce
Kushnick, who took pains to point out that the whole "reclassification'
debate is moot, at least as far as the ILECs go, as their underlying
infrastructure is already Title II - he accuses them, when it comes to
their cable services, of "title-shopping" to have it both ways. He got a
big cheer. Rounding out the panel, and representing the NYC startup scene,
we had Etsy and Meetup policy officers , Althea Erickson & David Pashman.
At one point Althea suggested that, if it weren't for NN, we'd all still be
stuck with Google Video!. while David outright accused NN opponents of
mendacity. Meanwhile, the audience included a good proportion of totally
oblivious tourists and passers-by, giving the whole affair a vaguely Coney
Islandish 'Shoot The Freak" ambience.. Shoot the wonk?
