Elver,
Permit me to show my face even though you have asked that we hold our
comments. you have asked very difficult questions, i agree with Narelle
that probably we should not draw staff into this. I think we need to
re-engineer our Strategy. Indeed African Chapters met senior ISOC staff in
Durban and we had a similar debate even though we did not have clear
answers since the Staff equally needed time to think through a win win
situation. I would suggest an open minded approach on this issue from both
Chapter leaders and ISOC management in charge of the organizations strategy
so that we can arrive at a sober decision. The fact that we are having this
debate shows that we have come of age, we are thinking globally and acting
locally and need to be empowered more, my proposal to ISOC is to consider
whether it is feasible to support at least one staff per Chapter in
addition to the other support being extended. The chapters in return should
remit a certain percentage of membership fees back to the ISOC HQ to ensure
we are able to sustain this model, this is just a thought that we can build
around.
