[Chapter-delegates] Agenda for the September 16 ISOC Board of Trustees meeting

Ted,

thanks a lot.

It is heartening in a way to see that a Governance Committee is finally going to be established. Many of us have worked for that in different periods as Trustees. It would be very valuable for all to have its mandate open for comments by members, Chapters, and organizational members (most desirably an open comment forum i.e. where conversations can ensue, not only a mailbox.)

The same applies for the Strategic Planning process as it will be a severe constraint on the new CEO and on the action of Chapters and members both individual and organizational. The inklings of disarray in communications we have observed recently - a wildcard social-media campaign, the disappearance of the monthly newsletter, the moving-target interpretations of what ISOConnect is, etc. - do suggest that we all want to understand that planning better.

Seeing the date of the meeting it seems that the Nominations Committee will again be in a time crunch, contrary to many recommendations. Let's hope that it has time in 2014 since the time left in 2013 seems too short now.

I hope you and others can convey these comments to Lynn and the Board.

For those unable to open the PDF, the time of the meeting is in UTC (2000-2200.)

For those new to the Board of Trustees meeting announcements: the Board of Trustees of ISOC meets regularly, either face-to-face during two of the IETF meetings each year or during one of the ICANN meetings, and by teleconference the other times, for a total of about 6. Parts of the meetings are open to listening but not to participation by non-Trustees, and parts are executive sessions and therefore closed. It is highly recommended, if you are a Chapter delegate yet still new to ISOC, to listen in and study the available documents both in advance and after the meeting.

I hope the Chapter-elected Trustees Narelle Clark, Rudi Vansnick and Alain Aina can tell us more about the issues and maybe even gather an opinion or two from the Chapters community. We remember well that you are Trustees of the Society as a whole and you remember well how you got to carry this burden.

Yours,

Alejandro Pisanty
