glad to know you are interested as well.

You may have missed this from a message of mine on October 1:

"The *one* true innovation in the landscape is the possibility in the Bylaws to create a Chapter Advisory Council.

Previous attempts have failed and I am among those who have had serious doubts about the concept. We should test it now. We know afresh much of what the Council should be able to do and what is out of its scope. Let's get on to it. I'm in if I can be considered useful."

I think that before any of us puts his/her names up for roles we need to start doing some actual work. What in the present landscape can a Chapter Advisory Council do that improves the situation, what could actually go wrong with it?

IMO a Chapter Advisory Council can bridge many gaps and make sure there is a persistent and consistent voice from the chapters. It must not try to take over from the chapters, however, nor become one more self-propelled power center or attempt to become one. IMO that is what killed a well-known previous regional model.

Further to the Note to Chapters that we have all received from Walda Roseman, I suggest that it is now down to the Chapters ourselves to initiate the organisation of at the Chapters Advisory Council.

To this effect, I would be prepared to take on the röle of Convenor of an Interim Steering Committee for the creation of the Chapters Advisory Council. If that would be acceptable, I would be glad to see expressions of interest to participate in the Steering Group posted to the Chapters Delegates List. In the first instance, the Steering Group should comprise at least one recognised member from each of the principal geographical regions. The initial objective might be to work towards a first plenary meeting of the Council in mid-2014, for instance in London.

PS: For those of you who do not know me, I initiated the discussion about Chapter membership of ISOC in 2010 (and have had a stake in that since then).
I am reasonably multilingual EN/FR/ES; and at 72 I have no interest in a longer-term commitment.
