Hi,

As you may recall, on 6 June 2012 we celebrated the World IPv6 Launch, aiming to highlight and encourage permanently enabling IPv6 for the global Internet. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you a bit of an update on how things are going, and what the Internet Society is doing to note the "Launchiversary".

In the year since the Launch, the participation and interest that started out as amazing has only grown. Today more than 100 ISPs around the world now are participating in World IPv6 Launch, and we continue to see increased IPv6 deployment by network operators and websites.

What's really notable, however, is that the use of IPv6 around the world has more than doubled in the past year. This marks the third straight year IPv6 use on the global Internet has doubled. If current trends continue, more than half of Internet users around the world will be IPv6-connected in less than 6 years. Of course, there's a lot of ground to cover between here and there, but the important thing is that this signals we are well beyond the "IF we ever deploy IPv6" phase of even a couple of years ago.

We have created an updated infographic to reflect the progress of and prospects for IPv6 deployment:

World IPv6 Launch participants will be reaching out over the next few weeks to mark this anniversary, and we will continue to provide updates on the World IPv6 Launch website, and through social media channels such as the @worldipv6launch Twitter feeds and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/worldipv6launch

The global Internet community has taken important and significant steps forward to ensure the Internet can connect *all* the people in the world--but our work is not yet complete. As I noted last year, we look forward to continuing the journey towards universal deployment of IPv6 together with you.

Leslie.
