[Chapter-delegates] Membership Database Maintenance

Dear Rudy,
I second your remarks.
It can’t be stressed enough that the international ISOC organization has
to comply to local laws. Especially because isoc.org is not only
holding, but also mutating and using member databases & data.
Directly related to this legal problem is the sending of unsolicited
mass email to chapter members by isoc.org. This without the endorsement
of the respective chapters. Several members complained about this
‘spamming’ en we had even cancellation of membership.
I’m not surprised by the bouncing problems. There are several
registrations. An example is the existence of so called international
members. Interesting, but not for chapters and members who just want to
have memberships. It's easy to understand that this gives administrative
problems and overhead.
A bigger problem is that mutations to member records are also made by
isoc staff. This also without the endorsement of the respective and/or
involved chapters. Chapters are (always?) informed afterwards. This
situation makes it very difficult for the chapters to keep the
registrations up to date, comply to legislation and to do proper
member-management.
I'm very happy with the discussion that Ted raised. A good starting
point for further improvement of our ISOC organizations!
Best regards,
Dick Kalkman
