Dear colleagues,

Building on the 2009-2010 membership consultation on emerging policy responses to online copyright infringement (the ISOC CWG) and the work undertaken by the Internet Society on ACTA (http://www.internetsociety.org/internet-society-submission-ustr-consultation-acta,http://isoc-ny.org/1503, etc.), the Internet Society is expanding its engagement on Digital content issues and its outreach to various fora (e.g. WIPO, TPP, TTIP,OECD, etc.).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your contributions towards the "Internet Society's Issues paper on intellectual property policy on the Internet", particularly with respect to issues relating to the principles behind the rule of law and due process and the need for inclusive governance structures also in the context of IPR discussions. These contributions helped us to shape the paper. As you can understand, given the high level nature and length of the paper, it was not possible for all suggestions to be taken on board. However, as we continue our work in this area, we look forward to an ongoing discussion with you and to learn about how IPR issues are evolving in your countries/regions and how you are engaging in the issue from a chapter or local perspective.

I would also like to thank all those who were able to join the Webinar yesterday to "pre-announce" the paper. The paper is part of our overall strategy to make sure intellectual property discussions take place within a transparent and inclusive environment that respects the rule of law and the nature of the Internet. And, as I said during our discussion yesterday, this paper is only the first step of an evolving process.

We will be publishing this paper on our website later today in English with translations in French and Spanish soon to follow.

Let me also take this opportunity to thank all our members who have volunteered to join a working group to update the 2011 copyright discussions paper developed by the ISOC Copyright WG. If you have not yet joined the group and would like to participate, please send me an email. This work would greatly benefit from your experience, expertise and perspective, especially regarding national and regional developments.

Finally, attached you will find the power point presentation from yesterday's webinar. I will also be sharing the recording of the webinar as soon as it becomes available.

Many thanks and I am looking forward to working with you all.

Konstantinos
