Hi All,
The key issues with PRISM, as we're framing it in Estonia, are the following:
1. Estonia's constitution guarantees certain basic (human) rights to every Estonian citizen, but the government is unwilling and unable to uphold these rights on the internet.
2. Estonia is an ally of USA and the minister of internal affairs testified publicly two months ago that different intelligence agencies are exchanging data with the Estonian ones. Our constitution guarantees the right to private communications, which can only be revoked by court permission, including for intelligence purposes. If Estonian agencies have received data about Estonians from the NSA or CIA, they have breached the constitution. And there is zero oversight.
3. Skype was and is still being developed in Estonia. If any Estonian developers were involved in building a backdoor for NSA, then they might have acted in accordance with US laws, but they definitely broke several Estonian laws.
Those have been our main talking points on radio, TV, and in newspapers today.
Best,
Elver
