Big news from BRUSSELS.
I say "big", because last year ETNO was one of the biggest EU proponents of
Internet regulation through the ITU WCIT conference. You might remember
that several ISOC chapters in Europe issued statements against the ETNO
proposals.
I guess ISOC may have persuaded them that our cause is right!

ETNO joins the Internet Society [ISOC] Building on its existing membership
network of organisations active in the Internet policy space, ETNO is
pleased to announce its membership of the Internet Society. ISOC is a
global cause-driven association which engages in a wide spectrum
of Internet issues, championing public policies that enable open access and
promoting the development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the
benefit of all users. With more than 65,000 members and nearly 92
Chapters around the world, as well as more than 145 organization members,
ISOC achieves change through partnership and expertise in policy,
technology and communications.
Luigi Gambardella, Executive Board Chairman of ETNO stated: “ETNO
appreciates the excellent leadership role that ISOC plays in ensuring that
the Internet continues to grow and evolve as a platform for innovation,
economic development, and social progress for people around the world.
Having a shared interest in the development of the Internet for the benefit
of all, we look forward to being an active member of the organisation and
adding our expertise to the debates”.
"Organisation Members are essential to advancing our work to ensure an
open, global Internet for everyone," said Walda Roseman, Chief Operating
Officer of the Internet Society.
"We bring together corporations, non-profits, trade and professional
organisations, foundations, educational institutions, government agencies,
and other international groups to provide valuable perspectives on the
evolution of the Internet. We welcome ETNO as a new Organisation Member."
Caroline Greer, Regulatory & Public Affairs Manager at ETNO, will be ETNO’s
representative on the ISOC Advisory Council which serves as an advisory
body to ISOC on matters affecting the general welfare and effectiveness of
the global Internet and its users.
