[Chapter-delegates] Weekly European Regional Bureau Newsletters: EU Overview

Hi Frederic,

the content of such a newsletter is very much appreciated and very
useful, and we would even consider translating it for our members on
a weekly basis.

I'm painfully aware of the enormous amount of work that goes into such
an effort at such a high rate, and would advise that ISOC has
additional wetware installed at the European office to help do this.
Editorial tasks like this will be a significant strain on the
EuroBuro otherwise, but apart from that it is a very efficient way of
involving the membership of ISOC and actively connecting them with what
is happening *now* (rather than post facto reporting). One thing to note
is that any news gathering is automatically an opinion on that news, and
that given our open nature this puts high demands on the quality of the
output.

Office documents are not a great format for sending around such
content - just not portable to mobile devices etc. I would prefer
this to be in the body of a weekly mail itself - possibly in some
lightweight text markup language such as Textile, Markdown, Asciidoc.
The lack of buttons to change fonts and no images will also enforce
efficiency.

Best,
Michiel Leenaars

FD> Please find attached the first edition of the "ERB Newsletters on
FD> EU related issues". Please consider it as a trial, which might
FD> certainly be improved in the future- the obejctive is to have you
FD> informed on a *weekly* basis. Also, I thought that sending it
FD> *beyond* the EU chapters list might be useful as many of you have
FD> already expressed their interest into European affairs. Of course,
FD> if not the case, I shall post it on a dedicated mailing list with
FD> those of you who have expressed interest.
FD>
FD> In short, your feedback is *highly* welcome on the content (ie.
FD> topics that you may want to be covered-or not), format
FD> (word/specific mailing list/ on-line) etc.
FD>
FD> Hope you will enjoy reading and I look forward to your comments

FD> Best Regards
