[Chapter-delegates] Application to form an ISOC Chapter in Japan

Dear Colleagues,
Following a rejuvenation effort that began in 2010, including several member meetings and online discussions, the application below for (re-)starting a Chapter of the Internet Society in Japan has been received. It is being sent to this list for peer comment and review. The period allowed for comments is two weeks and the deadline is 14 July 2012.

Chapter Application
A. Proposed name of the Chapter
Internet Society Japan Chapter
B. Community of Interest the Chapter will serve
This Chapter will serve persons and organizations that live or work in Japan.
C. Purpose and scope of Chapter
1.
The general purpose of the Chapter shall be to advance and promote the Mission of the Internet Society.
2. Additionally, without limiting the generality of the Chapter's purpose, the Chapter shall also:
- Increase the number of people who understand and support the Mission of the Internet Society by presenting its activities to Japan community.
- Serve as a focal point for knowledge sharing and professional networking to ISOC members that live in Japan
- Educate and motivate next generation leaders who play an active role in the Internet community both inside and outside Japan.
- Collaborate with other chapters to promote better understanding of each other’s Internet related activities.
D. Outline of key priorities for the first year of Chapter
- Promoting activities for ISOC, ISOC-JP and related organizations
- Make presentations at: Internet related-meetings (JPNAP user meeting, JPIX user meeting, JP open policy meeting, and so on)
- Hold a report meeting of ICANN and IETF.
- Educating activities
- Plan to have a conference, collaborating with a society in Japan (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers)

We’ll prepare a mailing-list for members, and plan to have workshops with a society to reach younger generations, such as university students. In the future, we’ll reach to enterprises in Japan and have organization members.
