indeed. My point is that this is one of those instances in which friends actually make your life harder. Now we have to make sure people don't read between the lines a subservience that will never be there (I hope!) when our positions are aligned. We already suffer a bit from that, and now that we may see policy statements and strong lobbying from this group, as I said... well, we'll have to manage this possible confusion as one more risk.

BTW we are already seeing things like this in the new-gTLD evaluation process, as I had warned a few months ago. Some ISOC leaders have not been taken into the SARP team. No way to find out why yet, but the first hypothesis is perceived conflict with PIR's proposals.

I'm confident Isoc won't suffer from this. It is, hopefully, a more mature organization today than few years ago ;)

I find it important in that we will have to be even more careful in the future, as this new lobby picks up, to make sure that ISOC's opinions are independent and well grounded, but also particularly well explained.

In the past we have coincided in views with several of these companies, which are also organizational members of ISOC and whose representatives include lots of good friends and ISOC members (including some pioneers and stalwart Internet fighters.)

Therefore I think that we must make clear to the world that ISOC is not a vehicle for yet one more "inside the beltway" lobby.
