Dear Sivasubramanian, dear Alejandro,

I concur with Alejandro in the sense that I believe ISOC should be careful who we partner with. CP is a great showcase and an excellent way of spreading the word about ISOC. However, CP has had some issues, at least in Mexico, that have left the impression that CP is not a company in "good standing". Proof of that is that we will not be having a CP in Mexico this year even though the the three consecutive precedent years it had been a very successful event.

What I want to say with this is that if we partner with someone who has this kind of precedents, ISOC's image may be harmed as a collateral damage for its partnership with CP.

Please don't read this as an definitive statement but, instead, as a concern aimed to preserve ISOC's good image. I think it has costed a lot to a lot of people and we should be very careful no to damage it.

All the best,

What is required is a discussion with the founders on our non-commercial intent and see if we could partner with them on terms acceptable to us. We could wait and see how this goes before we decide on what to do.

Internet Society could offer to reach out to (and fully fund the expenses of) these experts who have a profound sense of balance. I have 'dropped' three names to convey the idea, and I am sure that Chapters could come up with a hundred suggestion of names that are greatly admired by the next generation,

Nevertheless, there is, we believe, tremendous value in connecting with these self-professed ‘geeks’ and channeling their passion and desire for doing good in society at large to support the work of the Internet Society. Their own website mentions the promotion of the accessible, secure Internet that supports innovation and social connection. We’re looking to have action-focused conversations with gamers, hackers, apps developers, you name it. and infuse our work with their ideas for developing the future Internet.

Are they receptive to discuss the Event Agenda with ISOC and perhaps include topics related to Internet Governance / Youth Participation in Internet Governance? If the relationship is forged to be so strong, then it would indeed be worthwhile for Chapters to organize participation of Chapter Leaders as also encourage / offer funding / incentives to a few students to participate. However, Event Registration fee waiver alone does not help.

Some of you have been members of the Campus Party in your university days. Founded over 16 years ago, Campus Party is organized for the purpose of harnessing the energy of university youth to advance technology for social good. This positive and responsible-thinking global group wants to partner with ISOC and in particular ISOC Chapters in order to be involved in the key issues affecting the Internet. We are reviewing a Statement of Shared Principles document which we intend to sign in the near future and will encourage Campuseros to join the Internet Society and to join a local chapter.

One of our ISOC Chapter leaders and a former Campusero himself, Hans Peter Dittler will be speaking at one of the sessions and other ISOC participants will be joining discussion panels. We hope that all of you can take advantage of this incredible congregation of young technology explorers, their enthusiasm and their desire to make a progressive difference in society. Campus Party leaders have told us they want to encourage all the Campuseros to join ISOC chapters where they can. What a great infusion of new blood this could be for all of us. Please, if you can, join The Internet Society Staff and Campus Party in Berlin!
