[Chapter-delegates] Application to form an ISOC Chapter in Estonia

Joly,

now that is also good to read! We need to keep up the pace of collaboration among us and with the communities around us.

I also support the formation of ISOC Estonia wholeheartedly, though with the disclaimer that I don't know the principals. I hope it is being inclusive of all relevant people. We get into some trouble when some key people for the evolution of the Internet in a country are not properly involved and even become hostile to the chapter.

Chapter Application

A. Proposed name of the Chapter
Internet Society Estonia Chapter (Interneti Ühingu Eesti Peatükk

B. Community of Interest the Chapter will to serve
Estonian Chapter of the Internet Society will serve the interests of the (Internet Community) of Estonia.

C. Purpose and Scope of Chapter
Internet is a broad and important field with a lot of users, but Estonia lacks of well-organized group of interested people and organizations who would work and stand together for the future of the Internet in Estonia and as well on the Global level. The goal is to activate cooperation and discussion both within Estonia and internationally amongst Internet users. Therefore we would like to establish in cooperation with Estonian members of the ISOC, an Estonian Chapter of the Internet Society.
ISOC is a very strong Global organization and a network with more than 100 organizational and more than 44,000 individual members in over 80 Chapters around the world. Having an Estonian Chapter would allow us to cooperate with other Chapters, organizations, individuals to share experiences, know-how and best practices. As well, Estonia has a lot of experience in areas interesting for all, for example a widely spoken subject at present like cyber-attacks. Estonia is a very small country that wants and needs the opportunity to share our world with the rest of the world.

Mr Marek-Andres Kauts, Chairman of the Board, Mr Jaak Lippmaa, Member of the Board
The Estonian Internet Foundation represents the Estonian Internet community and handles the management of Estonia's top-level domain .ee and its sub-domains. Mr Marek-Andres Kauts and Mr Jaak Lippmaa have one of the biggest experience in the Internet Community in Estonia. Both of them were behind the Estonian domain reform that took place almost 2 years ago. Mr Jaak Lippmaa has been involved in the Internet and domain field in Estonia from 1992. Mr Marek-Andres Kauts is in addition the Estonian government's representative in ICANN Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) from 2008.

In addition:
Estonian Internet Foundation (EIF) has appointed the Internet Community Advisory Board (ICAB) consisting of interested experts from the Estonian Internet community. Aim of the Advisory Board is to be an intermediary between the interests and needs of the Estonian Internet Community and Estonian Internet Foundation. ICAB has a consultative role to EIF. Therefore we plan to involve members of the ICAB with The Estonian Internet Society Chapter.

2.The Internet Users Association
One of the partners in creation of Estonian ISOC Chapter is a non-profit organization The Internet Users Association. The Internet Users Association is a non-profit organization founded in 2008, whose objectives are to represent the Estonian Internet users with other members of the Internet Community, as well represent the views of Internet users in Estonia that are related to ccTLD management and exchange and mediate communication, information exchange and joint positions.

G. Additional Information
We are setting up a public blog to introduce the idea to a broader public and give the opportunity for more interested people to become involved in the process.
In addition to our supporters, numerous private individuals are interested in founding ISOC Chapter in Estonia, among whom are IT professionals and managers in both the private and public sectors, sociologists, marketing specialists and lawyers, a total of 28 people who have become a global members of ISOC.
