Dear Chapter Leaders

The enthusiasm and heartfelt thoughts expressed for celebrating the
accomplishments of the Internet Society of the last 20 years is, I'm sure,
central to why the organization has been getting stronger each year for the
last 20 and will become ever stronger in the future. I want to emphasize
that I personally and the Internet Society officers and staff have the
greatest respect for our Chapters and the outstanding work you do, much of
which we hope to showcase and honor at the Global Chapter Workshop (GCW),
the Global INET and throughout our year of celebration.

The Global INET in particular has been planned with the participation, not
simply input, of many chapters (though not all) from around the world,
particularly those far afield of Geneva. It will be more than a celebration;
it will be a culmination of 20 years of initiative, drive, creativity and
support for Internet development and the multi-stakeholder governance model.
This event has been designed in particular to honor the many individuals who
have made noteworthy contributions in that time, to include even those we
organizers may not know - hence the call for nominations from Chapters and
Members for inductees to the Hall of Fame (see below).

Chapters and their accomplishments have therefore been a central
consideration in our planning our 20th Anniversary celebrations, including
the Global INET. Our celebration is extensive and has many aspects to it,
including the launch of the Internet Hall of Fame. We have tried to balance
these interests with fiscal responsibility in our pricing approach and have
now rebalanced it with particular heed to recent input. I've summarized our
package below.

The Global INET will be a powerful look at both the history and the future
of the Internet. The roundtables will include chapter members, Internet
thought leaders, social development leaders, media gurus and others. And we
are announcing a program to support any and all chapters that are willing
and able to host a companion event remote hub to stream and/or play recorded
Global INET sessions for their membership and others that will extend
participation to all those unable to attend in Geneva.

Additionally as I mentioned above, we have issued a call for nominations to
the Internet Hall of Fame. The Internet Hall of Fame has been conceived to
honor the past contributions to the Internet made by a variety of pioneers,
many of whom have been part of The Internet Society. I expect many of you
will be on that list. Final inductees will be chosen by an Advisory Panel
composed of Internet authors, journalists and thinkers beyond ISOC. All
selected Hall of Fame inductees will be provided complimentary air fare,
hotel, free registration and two tickets to the Gala. You can make your
nominations at

http://www.internetsociety.org/20th/internet-hall-fame

And many of you on this Chapter Delegates list have received a special VVIP
invitation that offers free registration and attendance to the Gala in
recognition of your past participation on the Internet Society Board of
Trustees. There were 135 such invitations sent.

I wish to thank all the Chapter Delegates for their continued efforts in
education, advocacy and collaboration with all Members and Staff. Thank you
for your participation in the Global INET and your strong support for the
Internet for Everyone.
