On the NY Tech Meetup list today was an interesting discussion about how to
handle WiFi overload at tech events, something we may have to deal with at
the Global INET. Here's one interesting contribution:

Wifi for geeks is *always* a problem. One of the slickest things I ever
experienced was at JSConf last year. Some node developers from Europe put
together a node app that used Twitter for OAuth authentication of users and
then displayed a scoreboard of the "biggest bandwidth hogs" on the wall.
Social pressure meant that the Wifi was good for the entire conference. And
as someone who attends over 20 conferences a year I can say that is quite
an unusual achievement.
They open sourced all the code, and I bet you could extend it to provide
different QoS guarantees for different users (presenters get first shot at
bandwidth). Someone is going to create an amazing business out of using
node for this as it really showcases one of the strengths that people often
forget - it's not *just* for building web apps.
So that could be a solution if anyone had the time/energy to implement it.
Otherwise I'd guess the solution is for the attendees to live for 2 hours
without wifi. It's radical and scary, but I think we might manage it :)
