[Chapter-delegates] PES on ACTA - wow!

Veni,
I think both you and Eduard are right with some differences. Eduard hit
the point exactly.
So, we must be glad that people see the light, and continue enlightening
them ;-).
This is a slow process.
I am trying to promote that the Mexican Congress (legislature) communicate
officially to the European Parliament and others, especially in "ACTA"
countries, the resolution taken here last year by unanimity:
a. recommends the Executive not to sign ACTA;
b. warns the Executive that if they do go sign ACTA, the legislatrue will
not ratify it.
Several authorities for intellectual property protection and a number of
legislators are trying to insert small, local pieces of legislation which
cause the same problemas ACTA would (and SOPA etc.)
As said, this is a constant fight. We DO need to establish a better,
broader, widely recognized forum in which a deep discussion of changes to
intellectual property, copyright, authors' rights, trademarks, etc. can
take place.
I am aiming to have some of that happen in the INET. If the INET cannot be
the place where some clear ideas are expressed and the matter is moved
forward, the world will perceive that ISOC is not bold enough, not open
enough, and probably... not relevant enough.
This does not mean that I want INET to be an anti-ACTA political rally. I
think that we have to create room for all controversial views AND move the
debate a huge step forward.
Anything, except let our anniversary be captured, become meek, and make
this Society irrelevant.
Yours,
Alejandro Pisanty
