The following application for a Chapter in Kenya has been received. It is being sent to this list for peer comment and review.
Please note that the Chapter is not yet formed and has not officially been recognised by ISOC.
If there are people on this list that know the individuals proposing to establish the Chapter, feedback is especially welcome.

Chapter Application
A. Proposed name of the Chapter
Internet Society Kenya Chapter
B. Community of Interest the Chapter will serve
The Kenyan Chapter will initially serve the entire Country which is made up of 8 provinces currently transitioning into counties. The chapter will bring together all stakeholders under the theme building the future of the Internet in Kenya together.
C. Purpose and scope of Chapter
Act as a focal point for all institutions and individuals involved in management and growth of the Internet in Kenya. The Internet society Kenya Chapter will support all its members that is Institutional members and individual members achieve their respective goals through Capacity Building and providing fora for knowledge exchange.
D. Outline of key priorities for the first year of Chapter
· Create awareness on the goals and objectives of the Internet Society on a global, regional and local perspective.
· An assesment of the local Internet community with a view to finding our niche.
· Identifying gaps in the local Internet community that can be filled by the Internet Society.
· IP V 6 awareness and training

G. Membership
We will communicate to our members through a mailing list ISOC_Ke and our Facebook page ISOC Kenya which have more than 100 and 44 registered members respectively. We have an online register on google docs to capture the details of new members. In addition we have monthly membership meetings every third Saturday of the month hosted by one of our Corporate members at Q NET viewpark towers 10th Floor in Nairobi City. The Venue can host 200 members and has wireless connectivity. So far attendance has been averaging 10 to 15 members excluding online participation.
H. List of requirements
The government of Kenya expects all societies to be registered. We are in the process of submitting our application to the registrar of societies which should take us one month
I. Additional information
We have been meeting informally for the last eight months. We have made efforts to reach out to all stakeholders in the local intertnet community with success. Members have mandated the Interim steering commitee of which i am the leader to complete the registration process so that the Chapter can focus on addressing the gaps that have not been filled by the numerous associations that do the Kenyan Internet community. We have also developed an Ipv6 training program that will be launched in June during the Ipv6 week
