It is always a pleasure to see the ISOC's family growing.
Mauritius is a great "ICT's Country" is Africa and It will be great to have
them in ISOC Chapters community.
The application is good, I support it and I look forward to welcoming ISOC

Following a rejuvenation effort that began in December 2010, including
several member meetings and online discussions, the application below for
(re-)starting a Chapter of the Internet Society in Mauritius has been
received. It is being sent to this list for peer comment and review. The
period allowed for comments is two weeks and the deadline is 29 October
2011.

Chapter Application
A. Proposed name of the Chapter
INTERNET SOCIETY MAURITIUS CHAPTER
B. Community of Interest the Chapter will to serve
The community of Interest of this Chapter will be initially the residents of
Mauritius Island. Eventually we hope to scale our reach to other Islands
like Rodrigues Island which is a District of Mauritius but requires
understanding and more support to achieve the required knowhow.
C. Purpose and Scope of Chapter
The ISOC Mauritius Chapter will be an open organization where every
individual or institution will be welcome to participate and contribute. It
will make a special emphasis in a frequently and effective communication to
coordinate the local efforts with the regional and global ISOC organization,
and its many chapters, by becoming a global reference on how to engage the
different actors (Government, enterprise, education and civil society), in
order to leverage best practices for the development of national and
regional public policy becoming an expert in Internet related topics.
The Chapter aims to become a channel for execution of programs axed towards
covering and including everyone and breaking down the digital divide,
developing activities focused at increasing the digital inclusion in our
target population. With this support and with support from many sources, the
Chapter will perform activities in the areas of education and the promotion
of alternative methods of access to internet.
The Chapter will help in forging links between the industry and projects in
education, training, health, and public policy. This will help in explore
the competences development by empowering the people in the problem solving
of the challenges facing the world, identified in the Millennium Development
(MDG) goals.
