Dear Alejandro,

thank you very much for your comment re. e-courses suggested during Bucharest workshop by ISOC members from Azerbaijan and Armenia. In those (and other) Chapters there are ideas circling around about e-courses which will include elements of entrepreneurship and of current Next Generation Leaders course. Such e-course may give added value to careers of young people in developing countries and thus attract many new members to ISOC. The course could be offered by ISOC (eventually in some cooperation with the known University), if possible in a tutorless mode.

Coming back to your concern - one could imagine that once a content of the course is
designed (and endorsed by known University) it is then translated to at least most wide spread languages. Then Chapters may offer it locally or regionally in cooperation with local academia.

Elena is willing to set up a discussion group, to further develop this idea. This is in line with a general tone of Bucharest workshop, that a topic oriented groups should be create and that each such group should have one or more champions.

So, you are most welcome to join that group with your vast experience in Internet, education and challenges of developing countries.

With kindest regards,
Jacek

Dear Elena,

this is a wonderful initiative and we should push it as far as possible. It goes a long way in the co-responsibility between Chapters and ISOC HQ/Global for which many of us advocate frequently.

I think that we should bring in not only our own developments "de novo" but also make sure to refer to already existing online educational resources (OER), especially those that are open or freely available.

Decisions, decisions!! An important decision to be made is what to do about languages. I don't want to stir again the discussion about multilingualism etc. - what we need is practical decisions that we can turn into action immediately. The test will not be how well we argue for languages but what we can produce in ANY language(s) at all.

I believe that we should not in principle say "no" to content in English, and that educational materials, or well-organized, self-standing e-learning courses (and learning objects) will attract support in other languages if they are put in place before wasting a lot of time in a fruitless discussion. Scale can be better achieved by using languages shared among many chapters. The Latin American region is privileged in having a single language cross-cutting most countries and understood, if not spoken, in others (significantly, because of its size, Brazil.)

So, count me in...

Asunto: [Chapter-delegates] eCourses + chapters collaboration proposal

Dear colleagues,

Following the Bucharest Chapters Workshop, I would like to followup on Narine's and Ulkar's suggestion from Isoc Armenia and Azerbadjan, to set up a number of eCourses that we can propose in our respective countries.

We think this proposal is a concrete step we can take in the near future and include in our 2012 strategy. As our general Assembly at Isoc Romania is next month, I would like to ask if there are any other chapters who would like to participate to this and bring ideas.

Also following the Bucharest workshop,I promised to set up a collaboration platform that would integrate a private social network / wiki / forum for chapter-to-chapter collaboration. This solution integrates all three functionalities, and can be made private as soon as a sufficient number of chapters decidethey would like to use it.

It is not 100% ready yet, we still need to create a custom homepage with a dashboard of activities and I would appreciate if any techie who would be willingand able to help (Marcin from Poland already helped a lot, thanks!)

Please take a look below and let me know your reaction http://www.anuntul.eu/wordpress/groups

Thank you for your remarks on or off the list (for the sake of less email spamming you can also use the reply form on the platform homepage)

I worked 1 full day on this and I would like to see some enthusiasm :)

I also set up a mediawiki installation and a phpbb at http://www.anuntul.eu

Best regards

Elena Zvarici
