Eric,
in many European countries, you can't just "show up" for a hearing at
the Parliament. In Bulgaria you need to be "invited", only by a member
of the parliament (MP). You need to give an ID, they will photograph
you, and take any personal data they consider "important". You will have
a pass to enter and exit the parliament. In other parliaments, you might
even have an escort. You won't be able to go and "see" your
representative, unless you have scheduled appointment with him/her. You
won't be able to see their staffers, as their staff is never at the
office of the MP.
In some countries, they may consider you crazy, and put you in a
hospital, if you insist to see your MP.
What exists in the US Congress, is far, far away from the rest of the
world.
Marcin,
you might be able to watch this online. Also - connect with Mike Nelson,
who is organizing an event with ISOC-DC on that subject (SOPA; btw, sopa
in Bulgarian, and may be Turkish, means a bludgeon - I find this quite
amusing).
