Dear Colleagues,

It is being sent to this list for peer comment and review. The period allowed for comments is two weeks and the deadline is 18 November 2011.

a.	How is this Chapter related to other Chapters?

It is not related to another chapter in Switzerland since the previous Chapter (the ISOC Geneva Chapter) has been closed in late 2009 by ISOC International. The new ISOC Switzerland Chapter is a “rejuvenated” Swiss chapter, this time encompassing all of Switzerland both in its name and its charter.

b.	What will this Chapter be doing?

Answer: According to its mission statement the ISOC Switzerland Chapter considers itself as part of the international Internet community and therefore also commits itself to the global ISOC statement: “The Internet is for everyone”. The Internet Society Switzerland Chapter intends to support the evolution of the Internet according to principles of openness, transparency, democracy (consensus-based) and by means of multi-stakeholder approaches. Further excerpts from our mission statement:
“It represents its members’ interest on public policy issues and provides technically-grounded advice on the impact of policy on the Internet generally.
The Internet Society Switzerland Chapter also participates in the evolution and development of the Internet in a regional and an international collaboration context.
The Internet Society Switzerland Chapter should enable the self-organization of its members to contribute personally or via other organizations to the future of the Internet by education of its members about every aspect of the Internet and enable those to make their voices heard in the development of the Internet.”

c.	Are there any issues that we need to be aware of?

No. After some discussions among the transition team members and after advice from ISOC International consensus was reached to formally organize the Chapter as all or most other chapters in the world, but leave the details of the desired organizational form to be sorted out by the board and the membership of the new chapter. The most probable outcome of this decision will be to form a Swiss association.
