ISOC Armenia Chapter activity in May 2011

1. ISOC AM Chair, Igor Mkrtumyan, participated in the Russian Internet
Governance Forum (www.cctld.ru ) (Moscow, May 12, 2011) and had talks with
Peter Dengate Thrush, George Sadowski and Veni Markovski. AM domain
developments and ISOC AM activity were discussed. Igor Mkrtumyan has also
met Markus Kummer and Jovan Kurbalija.
Among other interesting reports Future Internet Scenarios were presented by
Marilyn Cade, Shane Tews and Pablo Molina and caused active discussion of
the conference participants. 
Igor Mkrtumyan also took part in the Roundtable #2 - Internet Governance in
CIS Countries: Global Challenges, Local Solutions.

2. ISOC AM members congratulated ASNET-AM and its director Vladimir Sahakyan
with the receipt of the Internet Community grant for the “Upgrade of Armenia
academic (research) network for IPv6 readiness” project. 
3. ISOC AM provided help and some financial support for the “Information
Systems Security” conference organized by Armenian Technological Academy and
Microsoft. 
4. ISOC AM received an invitation for participation and request for support
of the 1st Armenian International Congress on Telemedicine and eHealth
"ARMTELEMED: Road to the Future" that will take place on October 14-16, 2011
in Yerevan.

5. One of the major Armenian international communications providers,
GNC-Alfa company, declared IPv6 readiness.

6. ArmIX Foundation (ISOC Community grant) received a BigIron 15000 layer 3
backbone switch and placed it at Armix Foundation operation premises. 
Director of ArmIX expressed deep appreciation to all the parties involved in
the provision of this important equipment to ArmIX, especially ISOC, AMS-IX
and personally to Serge Radovcic, Michuki Mwangi, Henk Steenman, Igor
Mkrtumyan and Saskia Taggenbrock.

7. Member of ISOC AM Council, Grigor Vahanyan, took part in the seminar
organized by European Union and Armenian National Security Council devoted
to the reforms of legislation in protection of intellectual property rights.

8. Vanadzor city Rregional Internet Community Center (ISOC grantee) 15
members took part in the Moscow Olympiad for schoolchildren called
“Archimedes Tournament”. Trainings in programming they passed in the Center
helped them to achieve good results in the contest.
