Event news...

==INET New York==

First and foremost, registration for INET New York on June 14 is now
open. The theme is "It's your call; What kind of Internet do you
want?"

We will talk about not only our wishes, but practical steps that can
make those wishes a reality. Full agenda is on
http://bit.ly/inetnyagenda  We are happy to announce that Larry
Strickling will join Vint Cerf and Tim Berners Lee as a third keynote
speaker. And we have lined up all three for an existential discussion
to end the day.

Again we suggest that you don't delay as this will surely sell out at
$25 for a full day.

We also have some printed invites. If you are in the City and know of
a good location to drop some, or could distro a few, please fwd the
info to admin at isoc-ny.org

==INET Rabat==

Today Tuesday May 9, another INET is taking place - in Rabat Morocco.
The theme there is  "The future of the Internet: Towards a new era?".
Given recent events in the region, sure to be an interesting
discussion!  But you'll have to be up early to catch the live webcast
on http://bit.ly/isoctv as they are 5 hours ahead of us. Oh and, some
French might help.

==Wikimedia Training Workshop==

Also today Tuesday - but right here in NYC - Wikimedia NYC will be
holding the second in their series "Wiki Workshops for Newbies" at New
Work City (Broadway at Canal, 7pm). Experts and newbies are invited to
come on down and get their edit on.

Sign up on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Workshop
or just drop by.

==New York Technology Council - Privacy and Data Security in the Cloud==

The May 17 NYTech.org event will tackle the knotty issue of privacy
for website operators and online service providers. Two top experts in
the field will inform on best practices to keep user's data secure,
and meet legal requirements, especially as applications move to the
cloud.

==OpenGov Camp==

Open NY Forum will be hosting the third OpenGov Camp on June 5 2011.
The event is in conjunction with the 2011 Personal Democracy Forum
(PdF).

As NYC's new Chief Digital Officer Rachel Sterne comes up to speed, we
are all keen to see how she, with the help of the local community, can
build on the open data foundations that Gale Brewer and Mayor
Bloomberg have set. As far as access to actual process New York still
lags behind Los Angeles and San Francisco in terms of webcasting and
transcription.

OpenGov Camp will ask three questions:
* Where is “local” Open Government going?
* How can we deepen the knowledge of what Open Government can be?
* What are the social and technical tools affecting Open Government’s
development?
