Asunto: [Chapter-delegates] Announcement - ISOC COO

Dear Chapter Delegates,

I am very pleased to be able to inform you that Walda W. Roseman has agreed
to join the Internet Society as incoming Chief Operating Officer.

Walda will be based in Reston, VA and will lead a globally distributed team.
She will help guide the operational activities of the Internet Society,
enabling the organization to achieve greater geographic reach and deliver on
its mission to help ensure an open, globally accessible Internet for the
benefit of individuals worldwide. To this end, she will oversee several key
strategic programmes, with particular emphasis on our Regional Bureaus,
Membership, and Business Development.

As you have seen from the 2011 business plan, regionalisation is a key focus
for the Internet Society given our desire and need to scale our activities
across the world. Walda is tasked with helping us achieve our objectives, by
working closely with the Chapters and their membership to extend both the
reach and impact of our work.

Walda brings a wealth of valuable experience in management, policy,
communications, strategy, ICT and Internet issues to the role. Most
recently, as founder and CEO of CompassRose International, she closely
followed Internet ecosystem trends and key issues. In this capacity she has
worked with the Internet Society's Strategic Global Engagement team,
providing highly relevant industry information and briefings on the progress
of working groups within organisations such as the ITU.

Her previous experience has spanned such positions as Chief of the (US)
Federal Communications Commission International Office, a variety of senior
executive positions in external relations and strategic planning at
Intelsat, COO of the (US) Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Senior
Vice President for National Affairs and Planning at (US) National Public
Radio. She also has been instrumental in creating activities to empower
youth and women in the ICT arena.

Please join me in welcoming Walda to the Internet Society family. If you
would like to get in touch with Walda, she can be reached at
roseman at isoc.org.
