A. Proposed name of the Chapter

Internet Society Uganda Chapter

B. Community of Interest the Chapter will to serve

This Chapter will serve persons and communities who live or work in Uganda

C. Purpose and Scope of Chapter

The mission and purpose of the ISOC Uganda Chapter is to “foster the promotion, open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of all for not for profit purposes in urban and rural communities in Uganda.”

In pursuit of this mission and purpose, Uganda Chapter of Internet Society shall:

	• Promote  open development of standards, protocols, administration, and the technical infrastructure of the Internet in Uganda
	• Promote consumer awareness on internet related issues
	• Promote and advocate for pro-user, pro-people policy development
	• Support ICT education in Uganda wherever the need exists
	• Promote professional development and build a community to foster participation and leadership in areas important to the evolution of the Internet
	• Provide reliable information about the Internet.
	• Create, promote and provide forums for discussion of issues that affect Internet evolution, development and use in technical, commercial, societal, and other contexts.
	• Foster an environment for partnerships, cooperation, community, and a culture that enables self-governance to work.
	• Serve as a focal point for cooperative efforts to promote the Internet as a positive tool to benefit all people throughout Uganda.
	• Provide management and coordination for on-strategy initiatives and outreach efforts in humanitarian, educational, societal, and other contexts.
	• Carryout any other related activity(ies) as provided for in these bye-laws with a resolution of not less than ¾ of registered members.

F. List of Requirements

·      Registration certificate as a non-for-profit Organization in Uganda
·      Organisation Constitution/bylaws set and approved by all the chapter founding members in accordance with ISOC guidelines
·      Organisatiion work plan or proposed activities with budget lines
·      Registration fee – UGX 15,000

G. Additional Information

The ISOC Uganda chapter has been in rejuvenation for over 5 months now. In the process, the chapter has held meetings with interested parties aiming at clearly stating the chapter’s role in the internet industry in Uganda, completing steps to have it fully registered and beginning its work. To date, the rejuvenation list has over 60 members, with diverse knowledge in internet matters. We have also begun processes of having the chapter formally registered in Uganda.
