Dear Members,
This is to inform you that the Organization for Economic Cooperation and
Development (OECD) is organizing a "High Level meeting on the Internet
Economy: Generating Innovation and Growth" on 20-21 June 2011 (date tbc), in
Paris. This meeting is an important milestone following the 2008 Ministerial
conference on the Future of the Internet Economy. The objective of the
meeting is to examine policies to advance broadband deployment and access
policy goals to strengthen growth, as well as principles for Internet
policymaking. Several ministers have already confirmed their participation
and the OECD is expecting some media coverage for the event.
The agenda will be structured around three major issues (detailed agenda
will be available shortly):
1. Broadband Access
2. Balancing Policy Goals to Strengthen Growth
3. Policy Processes for the Internet
As the coordinator of the Internet Technical Community to the OECD (ITAC;
www.internetac.org <http://www.internetac.org/> ), the Internet Society will
propose speakers for this event. If you would like to propose a high-level
speaker (e.g. CEO, CTO level, researcher) that we could suggest to the
OECD's Secretariat, please send us his details along with a biography and a
short overview of the proposed presentation before 28 January. Speakers
selected by the OECD would present in their own capacity.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce Nicolas Seidler
(seidler at isoc.org ), who recently joined ISOC's Strategic Global Engagement
(SGE) team as Manager of Global Partnerships and who will contribute to the
Internet Society's participation to the work of the OECD and various UN
agencies.
We will keep you updated as the organization of the event progresses. Please
don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions in the meantime.
Thank you and best regards,
Constance Bommelaer
Senior Manager
