Dear all
We've been busy this month and while you've seen some reports on some individual announcements - we wanted to give you the bigger picture. So I'm pleased to present the first monthly media relations report that gives an overview of what we did and the results we achieved in January.
It's a long one this month - enjoy!
Regards
Anya
Media Relations Activity Report – January 2011
Overview
2011 has really started with a bang! We’ve leveraged a number of announcements, including World IPv6 day and the IETF’s 25th anniversary, but we also gained significant traction by positioning the Internet Society as a leading voice for Internet Freedom as Egypt shut down its connections. Furthermore we were able to leverage our participation in the ICANN press conference surrounding IPv4 depletion. The coverage that resulted from the announcement was neutral to positive, suggesting that our work with the media in advance of the announcement to put forward our more positive messages around IPv6 traction, was successful.
The resulting coverage this month has been a who’s who of International media outlets. We’ve also undertaken an unprecedented 19 briefings with media, including face to face meetings, telephone interviews and a few emailed responses. The availability of key spokespeople has been a key factor in this month’s traction. Their timely and valuable input has enabled us to respond rapidly to incoming requests for media briefings and has enabled us to create the press releases, media alerts and Q&A documents required to support our outreach.
