Dear Ted,

Thank you very much for your message and explanation.
The domain name “internetsociety.org” is longer but more expressive and
understandable. The launch of this new domain name with a new website will
surely enhance the image of the Internet Society worldwide. I think the
chapters should take action and register the domain name
“internetsociety.ccTLD” in their respective countries. I know It is not
going to be easy in many countries.

Here in Cameroon, we're still fighting to gain possession of the domain name
“isoc.cm” because it was recorded by an accredited registrar of. CM and
conditions of transfer given by that company are so complicated for us.
While waiting to conduct the recovery process to the end, we will take
action to register internetsociety.cm.

Long life to the Internet Society and ISOC

Best regards,

Victor Ndonnang

To all Internet Society Chapter leaders,

There has been a great deal of conversation regarding the new web address
for the Internet Society and its affect on Chapters. I want to assure you
that the decision taken was based on months of research and individual input
from many chapter members. "Internet Society" is not intended to replace
"ISOC" from either a naming point of view or in the online expression
through domain names. Rather, InternetSociety.org provides a way for the
community and the organization to be more understandable to, and
approachable by, people who are not already familiar with our community.
"ISOC" and ISOC.org will continue to be used where they are most appropriate
and effective. The intent and belief is that this change adds to the brand
and addresses a wider audience. While some may be concerned of the work now
undertaken by chapters to accommodate it, this naming addition has been done
with the utmost consideration of both current and future chapters and
members. The Internet Society Staff and a great many chapter members
believe this change will be for the long term benefit of all.

Thank you for you continued participation and commitment to The Internet
Society and the Internet for Everyone.

With sincere regards,

Ted Mooney
