Dear Members,
This is to let you know that we are working with the French mission in New
York and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC/BASIS) on the
organization of a briefing luncheon on the IGF, in New York for the 21
October. This will be a follow-up to the briefing session we organized for
UN ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) delegates last July. Timing is to be
in advance of the expected debate on the future of the IGF on 26 October.
Our primary objective is to raise awareness about the importance of the IGF,
and to ensure that in case of renewal of its mandate the fundamental
principles that have made the Forum's success are preserved:
multi-stakeholder, funded on a voluntary basis and coordinated by a
Secretariat based in Geneva where the Internet policy networks and the
history of the WSIS lies.
The attached invitation to this briefing session is currently being sent to
all missions of the Member States of the United Nations General Assembly.
Many of you work on a regular basis with your governments on
Internet-related issues. If possible, we would greatly appreciate if you
could encourage the participation of your government in this event.
