While I'm a supported of FOSS, CC, etc... I'm careful about mission creep
I think the role of ISOC here is:
1) protect RFC/IETF work from becoming proprietary by defending the copyright on the documents that allows anyone to use RFC at no cost
2) be on the forefront of policies like ACTA(?) or policy negotiations that would affect the way the Internet is run

I am just suggesting what ISOC *could* do. Whether, how, when, will...
these are questions to ISOC, not to me. As I said, it would be good,
knowing that Larry Lessig is there, if they can contribute. Observer
status is good, given the arguments provided in the press release -
"ISOC's participation showed WIPO the value of our organization's
expertise. At the same time, we found other areas where ISOC can
contribute to the work of different Committees within WIPO."
