Architecture at NYU Law tomorrow, TiM Wu's ongoing launch of his new
book 'The Master Switch', and next Wednesday sees an ISOC-NY
discussion - on radical approaches to broadband - that will also be
webcast live.
Plus Video of last week's Computers & Society Rushkoff talk "Program
or Be Programmed".
==TALK ON INTERNET ARCHITECTURE, INNOVATION AND NETWORK NEUTRALITY AT
NYU, NOV 10 ==
Barbara van Schewick, Associate Professor of Law at Stanford Law
School and Director of Stanford Law School’s Center for Internet and
Society, will discuss her recently released and widely praised book,
Internet Architecture and Innovation, at NYU Law School on Wednesday
Nov 10 2010.
When: Wednesday, November 10, 2:30pm-3:30pm.
Where: Vanderbilt Hall – Room 216 – NYU Law School – 40 Washington
Square South, NYC
Who: ISOC-NY community welcome. Photo id required.
Professor Marvin Ammori has described the book as “essential reading
for anyone interested in Internet policy-and probably for anyone
interested in the law, economics, technology, or start-ups.” The book
analyzes how the Internet’s internal structure, or architecture, has
fostered innovation in the past; why this engine of innovation is
under threat; why the “market” alone won’t protect Internet
innovation; and which features of the Internet’s architecture we need
to preserve so that the Internet continues to serve as an engine of
innovation in the future.
Whether you are tired of or confused by the network neutrality debate,
or simply wondering what is at stake, van Schewick’s talk will be
refreshing and illuminating.

of Washington Square)

Columbia Law Professor Tim Wu’s new book “The Master Switch: The Rise
and Fall of Information Empires” is out now. In the book Wu extends
his Net Neutrality arguments to their logical conclusion – that a
“Separations Principle” is necessary to preserve communication
freedoms.
Video of his launch "pizza party" at Columbia last week:
