Hi. I thought I should send you a note to let you know about the
deadline for submitting proposals for workshops for IGF 2010, which is
April 15 this year. Although the speakers lists don't need to be
populated until 30 May, past experience shows that developing the
proposal text and doing a first search for partners can be somewhat
demanding, so if you are thinking about proposing a workshop, it would
be good to start sooner than later. As in all the previous years,
workshops must involve a broad range of stakeholders (private sector,
civil society, governments, international institutions).
The MAG is very sensitive to the comments we have received that there
were too many workshops, and too many similar workshops last year. As
a result, if you do put in a proposal, you should expect that you
might be asked to merge the proposal with other similar workshops. In
addition, if you have sponsored a workshop before and *not* submitted
a report to the IGF Secretariat, you will *not* be permitted to put in
a proposal this year.
If you have not already done so, I'd recommend you look at the IGF
draft program paper at:
http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/2010/ProgrammePaper.19.02.10.doc
The MAG meeting provided more guidance on expectations for the
workshops than in previous years, as well as a wish list of topics
(pages 4 and 5). I think you will find some suggestions there that
might be of interest to you.
Of course those are not intended to exclude other possible themes that
you may want to put forward yourselves.
Best regards
Bill
