As you may know, the Mozilla Foundation, who took over the reins of
OneWebDay in 2009, decided earlier this year to put their efforts in a new
year-round effort call Drumbeat.
They attempted to fold the the OneWebDay community into Drumbeat, but there
are plenty of the OneWebDay community who believe that that the work that
has, over the last 4 years, gone into establishing a single day of global
Internet awareness should not be wasted. And, while Drumbeat is a worthy
endeavor, some have their own year round avenues of Internet activist
participation such as, of course, ISOC.
Since Mozilla is no longer centrally co-ordinating, I have set up a
seperate website to co-ordinate the 2010 activities. The suggested themes
are 1) the end-to-end principle 2) open internetworking, and 3) the internet
model.
The site I have set up is a BuddyPress - which allows for easy formation of
groups around regions or topics. I hope, in the month before OneWebDay - Sep
22 2010 - to try and build a community there to actively assist bringing
these issues, and of course the Internet Society's role in maintaining their
currency, to a broader public.
I also consider that BuddyPress (an easy to instal social networking plugin
for WordPress) might work well for intra-chapter, and even inter-chapter
intercourse. Please feel free to log in and kick the tires.
The site is at http://onewebday2010.org. or, for short, http://owd2010.org/
