Dear Mike et all,

This is just to give you a quick update on recent partnerships we have developed with UNESCO. Despite UNESCO's recent internal/institutional difficulties, we have been very proactive with this organisarion over the past three years.

We renewed our status in 2007, and chaired in 2008 UNESCO's Communication and New Technologies Joint Program Commission. Last year, we were also asked to contribute to the organisation of the 60th anniversay of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in partnership with UNESCO, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Government of France.

I had circulated on the chapters' list an invitation to contribute to the agenda of the session entititled "Inernet and Human Rights", and received many valuable inputs (thanks again!). This was for ISOC an excellent opportunity to work on a common agenda with a broad range of NGOs (including research institutes, think tanks, and Civil Society), which also have a formal relationship with UNESCO: http://www.isoc.org/pubpolpillar/community/unesco.shtml

Each year, we also contribute to UNESCO's general conference. This is the occasion of formulataing recommendations on on their programs and activities.

Finally, we are observers at the Information For All Program (IFAP)'s governmental council. The next meeting will take place in March (date tbc), and I'd be happy to collect your contributions in preparation of this meeting. I will circulate the draft agenda as soon as I have it, and look forward discussing it with you.

Best,
Constance

Veni,
I agree with Carlos and Jacek that a good relationship with UNESCO, since we
are an NGO, would make sense and may open opportunities for more global
actions to help promote the unfettered Internet...
