If he has a copy of his mailing list he should send several mails to everyone reassuring them he is okay and to ignore the scam.

Let everyone know he would not send requests like this for money, and get some publicity if you can. Issue a press release perhaps.

Unfortunately this will be really inconvenient, but you may be able to turn it into an exercise in education. This sort of thing can happen even to those in the know! Teach people about password strength, password security and keeping safe online.

If you can get some press, I'm sure yahoo India will act quickly to assist.

Hello All,

Chennai Chapter Secretary's yahoo account is hacked and the following message is repeatedly being sent to those in his mailing list.

Peculiar features of this hack:

1) The signature Sarto Rajenendran exactly resembles his signature in font style and color
2) The phone numbers are subtly changed from 26158550 26157569 2615449, 98403 45969 actual
to Phone: 91-44-26148550(Off-dir), 26137569, 26164449  Mobile: 98423 45969  in the spoofed mail, the numbers are visually similar but on close inspection one or two digits are changed in the spoffed mail
3) Yahoo India is taking inordinate time in responding to a report, because the verification information such as date of birth does not match the info that is on record with Yahoo in this account that was opened ten years ago.
4) This message with this apparent id is continually being sent,

What are the authorities that he can report to?

How's work on your end? This had to come in a hurry and it has left me in a devastating state.I am in some terrible situation and I'm really going to need your urgent help.
