Joly,
for all non-USians, it may be also useful to clarify what you were
thinking when you wrote "on St Paddies."
My decoding is that you meant on Saint Patrick's Day, which is known to
those studious of a specific calendar, and to observers of high degrees of
drunkenness in the streets of a specific city (New York). Further, it is
celebrated on March 17 every year since this celebration, unlike others in
many other countries, is pegged to the Gregorian calendar.
BTW in my country St. Patrick is a name more usually associated to a
batallion of Irishmen in the US Army's invasion of Mexico in 1847. They
suddenly realized that Anglo Protestants were commanding them in order to
crush and kill non-Anglo Catholics like themselves. They desisted and
passed to the Mexican Army to fight said Anglos. USians tend to call them
"turncoats" and "traitors" whereas they are held in high esteem in the
Mexican popular imaginary.
A reminder that this is indeed a global list, a fact that was more warmly
made clear among the 30 or so chapter leaders who met in Mexico City less
than two weeks ago. We are obliged to enlighten each other as we
strenghten our links in a global Internet Society.
Yours,
Alejandro Pisanty
