Dear Sabrina,
thank you for having forwarded the Rough Guide to IETF 75's Hot Topics.
I am sure it will be of great help to all attendees and I think it's great
the ISOC has put together such a guide.
However, may I also suggest one more working group: IDNABIS.
That stands for: Internationalized Domain Names in Applications (Revised) WG
Full charter: http://www.ietf.org/dyn/wg/charter/idnabis-charter.html
Meeting Agenda: http://www.ietf.org/proceedings/75/agenda/idnabis.htm
The complexity of the task has made the working group particularly late on
deliverables, but it is now reaching the last few miles before complete
consensus - and this is particularly important since in the meantime, ICANN
is waiting and waiting to start Internationalized Domain Names.
At ICANN Sydney, I spoke to Edmon Chung who, as part of the GNSO, is closely
monitoring this & focuses on CJK (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) scripts. Edmon
is doing an excellent job. I just wish others did too! Being increasingly
frustrated about the complete lack of authoritative information and the
constant going in circles at ICANN meetings (same questions being asked,
same "I don't know" answers being given), I suggested that he (and others)
monitor the IDNABIS IETF working group for first hand information.
So IMHO, this is a particularly important (and challenging) working group
and it needs all the support it can get, but I am glad to note that it is
reaching its conclusions.
Kind regards,
Olivier
