[Chapter-delegates] UPDATE : Mexico Logistics - note on Taxi's from the Airport.

Hi,

this is sound advice.

The taxi payment booth is at the end of the hall, walking to your right
when you leave the immigration, baggage, and customs area (long hall.)
There are two companies. Most people prefer the one called "Sitio 300". It
is not a booth that kind of stands in the middle of the hall; it is at the
end.

Hold on to your baggage until you are with the dispatchers and drivers.

There are two booths side by side, one for vans, "camionetas", which make
sense if several people ride together or you have lots of luggate, the
other "taxis" which are sedans.

You can pay in US dollars at an exchange rate that is a bit ruinous but
it's not a lot of money so no big difference. If you prefer to have
Mexican pesos use the ATMs in the airport. Preferably do not take a lot of
money from them nor exchange huge, visible sums in exchange booths.

We, like many other countries these days, are going through some turmoil
with the currency exchange rate. In general this will play to make your
foreign currency stretch longer once you are on the streets. The rate is
around 14.50 pesos to the dollar, with bad days getting closer to 15.00.

They are safe and secure and good drivers in general. As with taxis in
many other countries, as you watch them drive you may think something like
"I don't want to drive in a street with these guys around." Then you'll
leave the airport and see how everybody else drives and feel comforted.
The cars are white with yellow and black markings. Make a note of the cab
number, clearly visible from the inside, for things like lost objects.

The drive from the airport to downtown is not long but it may take more
time according to traffic.

Take it easy and enjoy.

Yours,

Alejandro Pisanty
