To the members of ISOC:

As we enter the election for new board membership, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we are at and where we are going, with a view to encouraging dialog and thoughtful reflection on the path before us.

As noted in the election schedule, we have four outgoing board members. Fred Baker and Glenn Ricart have served on the board for two terms and as a result are ineligible to return. Daniel Karrenberg has served one full term on the board. In addition, Alejandro Pisanty has completed the special the one-year term he was elected to in order to fill a vacancy. We want to thank each of them for this past service.

We have four candidates for our organizational members to consider. These include one incumbent, Daniel Karrenberg, and three new candidates, Raul Echeberria, Laina Raveendran Greene and Ganesh Natarajan. Please read their profiles. Of these, in keeping with our bylaws, the two candidates with the most votes will be elected to full terms (2008-2011).

We also have two candidates for the chapter members to consider. These include Dr. Alejandro Pisanty and Calvin Browne. Please read their profiles. Of these, in keeping with our bylaws, the candidate with the most votes will be elected to a full term (2008-2011). Note: Mr. Philippe Batreau was selected by the ISOC Nominations Committee but subsequently withdrew his candidacy.

As in recent years, the Election Committee has assembled a set of questions designed to allow the candidates to introduce their viewpoints on the variety of issues facing ISOC, as are summarized in ISOC’s three year strategic view found in the Strategic Operating Plan in two parts at http://www.isoc.org/isoc/SOP.pdf and http://www.isoc.org/isoc/SOP-Part2.pdf, as well as the 2008-2010 Plan and Budget found at http://www.isoc.org/isoc/general/trustees/docs/dec2007/budget.pdf. Each candidate has been asked to respond to the questions. Their answers will be posted as a blog at http://www.isoc.org/tools/blogs/elections08/. We hope ISOC members will read these, comment thoughtfully, and consider carefully the choice before them.
