The following application for a Chapter in the greater San Francisco Bay 
Area has been received. It is being sent to this list for peer comment 
and review.

Please note that the chapter is not yet formed and has not officially
been recognised by ISOC.

If there are people on this list that know the individuals proposing to 
establish the Chapter, feedback is especially welcome.

The period allowed for comments is two weeks and the deadline is 30 
December 2008.

This is the official application of the SF-Bay chapter of the Internet 
Society(ISOC). All questions raised by Sabrina Wilmot are incorporated 
in the application.

B. Community of Interest the Chapter will to serve

The Chapter is serving people located in the greater San Francisco Bay 
Area including the Silicon Valley.

C. Purpose and Scope of Chapter

To serve the Society’s purposes by serving the interests of a segment of
the global Internet community through a local presence and focus on
local issues and developments, including cultural, commercial and use of
local languages.

F. List of Requirements

Initially, we have volunteers who have interest in supporting the
organization in time and money.  We will then have membership with
minimal fees charged and hire preliminary administrative staff through
the funding we expect to raise through the participation and support of
bay area firms interested in our cause.

The initial board advisors and founding members would be engaged and
have responsibilities in various areas including fundraising.  Most of
the people in these group have fundraising experiences, either through
setting up their own startups or non-profits.

We plan to reach out to the communities you propose to serve
and get them involved, fund raise with the following philosophy:

Technology development needs to empower all stakeholders in the
SF/bayarea, who are not only developers but users of these technologies.
However, there is a huge go between the development and the user
community due to lack of 'inclusiveness'.  Most of the high tech forums
that are held in bayarea are too expensive for users to attend to,
therefore marginalizing the communities that should be using the
technologies. The local ISOC chapter intends to reach out to the levels 
of communities
and get consensus on what and how best to achive issues of technology
and user community.  The ISOC chapter aims to bridge this gap between
the various stakeholders and regions

6. Plans and goals for the new Chapter are:

- engage in a wide range of Internet educational initiatives

- expand Internet access at all levels of the local community

- promote recruitment and job market development in local technology
industries

- provide forums for professional networking and knowledge sharing

- develop specific projects and programs that support our goals above

Our goal is consistant with overall ISOC chapter.  We will support:

      * Development, maintenance, evolution, and dissemination of
        standards for the Internet and its internetworking technologies
        and applications.
      * Growth and evolution of the Internet architecture.
      * Maintenance and evolution of effective administrative processes
        necessary for operation of the global Internet and internets.
      * Education and research related to the Internet and
        internetworking.
      * Harmonization of actions and activities at international levels
        to facilitate the development and availability of the Internet.
      * Collection and dissemination of information related to the
        Internet and internetworking, including histories and archives.
      * Assisting technologically developing countries, areas, and
        peoples in implementing and evolving their Internet
        infrastructure and use.
      * Liaison with other organizations, governments and the general
        public for coordination, collaboration, and education in
        effecting the above purposes.

2. How will you enable the cooperation with other stakeholders and get
feedback from the community?

We will use mailing lists, create 'ISOC meet-up ' groups, build
partnerships and alliances with large stakeholder groups, technology
companies and forums to establish our purpose and increase our presence.
