[Chapter-delegates] ISOC-NY discusses at-large membership of ICANN

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage ISOC chapters to join
the  Regional At-Large Organization of their region. There are now 4
regional organizations (North America is still missing). 23 chapters
have already joined in.

There have been  critisicm about the (lack of) past achievements by the
ALAC. Now, with the RALOs electing representatives to the ALAC, there is
a whole new world of opportunities. This gives us a tool for a bottom-up
process, as the RALO can elect their representatives. Also, by the
Puerto Rico meeting, 80% of the ALAC will be made of new members.

There have been some reservations in the past concerning the relevance
of having ISOC chapters involved in ICANN At-Large. Today, the ICANN
board sent a strong message in support of ISOC chapters willing to do
so. ICANN and ISOC have a lot of interests in common. And while ICANN
may not be perfect, it is the only recognized forum to address naming
and numbering issues.
