Dear Colleagues,

Earlier this year a number of chapters expressed interest in
participating in OneWebDay, which will take place on 22 September
(See note below). We now wish to have a discussion with those
chapters who expressed an interest in participating in this event and
any other interested chapters, so that we can share ideas and co-
ordinate our activities. To that end, please let me know your
availability for a group conference call during the week of 9 July.
To help with the co-ordination and to find a mutually acceptable time
for the call, please state those times you are NOT available. To
save bandwidth, please reply to me off list.

In the meantime, attached is some information provided to us by
OneWebDay. Please note the events they propose are only
suggestions. A number of you may have experience from last years
'One Web Day' and similar events in the past and it would be good to
share experiences about what worked and what did not work. Our intent
is to focus on activities and events which highlight the benefits of
the Internet (not just the web) to people everyone and to showcase
the many ISOC chapters around the globe and the work done to advance
ISOC's mission and goals.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Anne

Subject: [Chapter-delegates] ISOC Participation in OneWebDay

Dear Chapter Delegates-

Happy New Year!

As we start the new year, ISOC has been asked to participate in an
initiative on 22nd September called 'OneWebDay' (http://
onewebday.org/). Some of our chapters participated in this event in
September 2006.

According to their website, "The mission of OneWebDay is to create,
maintain, advance, and promote a global day to celebrate online
life". In the past, ISOC chapters have successfully hosted similar
events -- "Internet Fiestas" -- that focused on the benefits of the
Internet (not just the Web) and the work of ISOC members related to
capacity building, education and training. We believe that
collaborating with the OneWebDay initiative is consistent with our
principles, i.e., that ISOC should be a focal point for cooperative
efforts to promote the Internet as a positive tool to benefit all
people throughout the world.

We would appreciate hearing from you as to whether your chapter is
interested in participating with ISOC in this event. Please respond
either to me or Anne Lord, Sr. Manager of Chpaters (lord at isoc.org).

Regards,

Terry Monroe
