Yesterday we had our ISO JTC1 mirror committee meeting in Slovenia.
Foreign experts were brought from abroad just for this meeting and they
presented their view only in English (IBM, MS and Andersen cons.)
All together we
had 26 persons including the director of the National Standard Institute
and some high officials. I insisted non members of the Committee
to leave the meeting after they have expressed their comments
and views. The rules in Slovenia require 75% of the votes for
adoption of Committee
deision. The Committee has 15
members (3 of them
joined recently just to vote for ooXML) and only
12 were present on the meeting.
All issues rised by similar bodies e.g. in Norway were
discussed. The document is certainly not mature for an international
standard. Only 15% of the standard text has produced 400 comments
sent to the German National Committee.
The voting in Slovenia was: yes 7 and no 5 votes.
So, the Slovenian committee vote sent
to ISO JTC1 was: abstein as none of the option
get enough votes.
I regret this but obviously what happened in Slovenia
happened in other countries as well. My impression was that
MS and the friendly companies were happy with the outcome
(better abstein then disapproval as abstein is not counted
in the final counting in ISO).
