Well, I'd like to see more co-ordination between ISOC as a whole and the
various chapters. Eg I raised earlier this year the issue of ISOC doing
a mail out to all the ITU members seeking support, when this particular
ITU member *is* a member and supporter of ISOC-AU. While, I agree that
there is always the possibility of organisations supporting both
chapters and the 'whole', this type of marketing activity would work
better all round if it were co-ordinated: we have knowledge of the local
landscape.
Since I'm talking about marketing activities (yes, really I *am* an
engineer!) I would like to see more templates, business plans, activity
packages etc for chapter activities for:
- fund raising
- awareness raising
- event holding
- projects
Co-ordination and distribution of speaker info between chapters when
people visit different countries, regions etc would be great, we can
almost always hold a meeting of members when visitors arrive. Over the
last year ISOC-AU has hosted ISOC* visitors from France, USA, China, NZ
etc (I forget the rest) and we are *always* keen to meet more of our
ISOC colleagues from around the world. Especially if you want to
discuss:
- Internet technologies, business models and governance/regulation
issues
- standards
- processes you've participated in
- projects you've conducted
- projects you'd like to conduct
etc
Perhaps we also need an 'adopt a chapter' program, where well
established chapters 'adopt' forming chapters or chapters in countries
with low Internet adoption. One of our board members recently spent time
in PNG on a linux training exercise, and there is the potential for
others to do the same from other chapters elsewhere.
Mind you, we've all got plenty to do running our own chapter... But
still, with some support from the board this may work out far more
efficiently than first thought would have it.

Well, perhaps this is along the same line of thought???

Check. :-)
