Sadly, we announce the death of Millard Clements, Board of Trustees
Member and Secretary of the Internet Society of New York and liaison to
the international ISOC, on August 29, 2005, after a long battle with
cancer.

Millard, was a graduate of Stanford University with a Ph.D. in
philosophy and education and Professor Emeritus in the School of
Education at New York University where he taught for 35 years.  He was
interested in the human uses of communications technologies in education
and civic life.  He worked in computer support activities at the United
Nations Conferences on Environment and Development, Rio De Janeiro, June
1992; Human Rights, Vienna, 1993; Social Development, Copenhagen, March
1995; and Women, Beijing, 1995.

He organized the YouthCaN project <http://www.youthcanworld.org/>, with
Jim Van Tassell and students in the Environmental Conservation Education
Program, in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme.  Millard
brought in the International Education and Resource Network (iEARN)
<http://www.iearn.org/> in its second year. YouthCaN (Youth
Communicating and Networking), is an annual youth-directed conference
that explores environmental issues and uses telecommunications to
develop cooperative projects, access information, and sustain
relationships among students and teachers in the different cites,
nations, and regions of the world.  Every spring, YouthCaN welcomes over
1200 environmental students and  educators, from more than 20 countries
to present and participate in educational workshops and activities at
the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.  Reflecting
Millard's passion for youth empowerment, he was consistently adamant
that YouthCaN be youth directed, providing opportunities for youth to
assume leadership positions and gain qualities of self-confidence and
optimism.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Jehan, daughters Saritha and
Carlosa, and grandson Drew.

Service:
A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for Sunday,
September  18, 2005.  If you would like to speak, please so advise
Saritha Clements <sclements at nj.rr.com>, in order to estimate the length
of the service.

Time: We will gather at 3:00 p. m.
